PolishUp - an exceptionally Polish exhibition
PolishUp - an exceptionally Polish exhibition
Wire mesh chair designed in the 1960s by Henryk Sztaba, a table made with great precision of two types of marble as well as acoustic panels - a combination of modern design and the latest technology honoured by the prestigious Red Dot award. These are just a few of the many products which could be seen at the PolishUp exhibition during Łódź Design Festival. The exhibition was a part of the BiznesUp! design made in Poland forum, and continuation of exhibition projects of the curators - Agnieszka Jacobson-Cielecka and Paweł Grobelny. Exhibition background was dominated by white and red – idea behind it? To show the best Polish design in one place.
PolishUp is an integral part of BiznesUp! design made in Poland which aim is to promote native design in Poland and abroad. At the same time, the exhibition was a natural continuation of earlier exhibition projects called Unpolished, PolishedUp, and Moderna. Industry + Crafts by Agnieszka Jacobson-Cielecka and Paweł Grobelny – the exhibitions that have been documented changes in Polish design for the last 10 years. PolishUp tells less about the creators, and much more about the market and the producers themselves.
- Exhibition can be understood on three levels. On the basic, visual, it presents attractive items that are worth looking for. The second, deeper level is information. Often, we have no idea that the things we like are being designed by local designers and produced by the company from the neighbourhood. Finally, at the third level, the Exhibition reveals connections between the craftsman and the industry, the designer and the producer, the product and how it can be communicated - says Agnieszka Jacobson-Cielecka.
The exhibition, which could have been seen during Łódź Design Festival until May 27, presents 40 Polish companies: DYWILAN D-sign, Gra-Fika, KEENO, LUMIO, Spinners, Aqua Posters by Studio Warto, Tartaruga, Projekt68, Un ' common, Many Mornings, 366 Concept, BOOGIE, HELLO PETS, dziane, FAMEG, Wood & Paper, Goldie & Oldie, Two or three things, VOLA. art of deco, JEDWAB AUTORSKI, DOKI, AQForm, august design studio, HOP DESIGN, Ćmielów Design Studio, ZACZYN, EHØ Muteboards, IMOdesign, METR64, LAGA, Living Milk, NOTI, tre product, Mozaika Truffles, Majolika Nieborów, VZÓR, Lumeline , Well®Done Dobre Rzeczy, JULIA, TABANDA
- PolishUp exhibition is distinguished by its diversity. Among 40 products from Polish companies, we can find everyday objects, produced both by large brands cooperating with Polish designers (FAMEG, NOTI), as well as smaller companies for whom design is an important element of development (Many Mornings, tre product) and finally several people or one-man studios (august design studio, Tartaruga), that conduct small-scale activities on the verge of design and handicrafts - says Paweł Grobelny.
Each of the companies also had the opportunity to present themselves at the BiznesUp! design made in Poland forum, which took place on May 24 – 25 in Art_Inkubator at 3 Tymienieckiego Street in Łódź. The project was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund under the Regional Operational Program.
